Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Verana Health?

Verana Health is a healthcare technology company focused on curating and analyzing health care data to advance medical research and patient care. As the data curation and analytics partner of the American Academy of Ophthalmology IRIS® Registry (Intelligent Research in Sight), Verana utilizes real-world clinical data found in the IRIS Registry to advance and accelerate research and give physicians access to critical information that can be used to improve patient care.

Why did Verana develop the Verana Vision Test application?

Verana Health developed the free Verana Vision Test application in response to the evolving needs of physicians and patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. The application includes a visual acuity test that enables patients to measure visual function at home and can be used to collect information on eye health remotely during a telehealth visit or between appointments. Prior test results are recorded in the app.

Verana Vision Test cannot replace clinical judgment and does not provide a diagnosis of eye health or other disease. Patients should consult their physician if they have concerns regarding their eyesight.

Has the application been clinically validated?

The application uses the same foundational visual acuity algorithm that underpins the Checkup (formerly Sightbook) application, which was developed by DigiSight Technologies (the predecessor to Verana Health). This visual acuity test has been clinically validated in several studies and has demonstrated good agreement with standard-of-care measures, as well as good reproducibility. Please reach out to if you’d like to learn more.

Can I see my patients’ test results?

Patients can choose to share their Verana Vision Test visual acuity results via a number of common communication applications for text messaging and email. Patients can also share real-time and prior test results by showing their screen during a telehealth visit.

Which phones and operating systems are supported?

The Verana Vision Test application currently works on iPhone 6 or newer, as well as the latest generation of iPod. Devices require iOS 11 or higher to run the application.

How can I provide feedback on the application?

Please reach out to if you have feedback or questions related to the application and a member of our team will reach out to you to connect.
