VP, Quantitative Science (San Francisco)

We are seeking a dynamic leader who thrives at the intersection of data science and analytics innovations, real-world data (RWD), customer delivery and scientific discovery. The VP, Quantitative Science, will be a key role within our organization, liaising with the medical, product, and technology teams. This integral role will report to Verana’s Chief Medical Officer. We are seeking someone with a passion for data insights solutions to drive innovation momentum in clinical practice and contemporary clinical research.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and drive the strategic vision for Quantitative Science
  • Develop best practices for research methodology suitable for real world data
  • Develop and standardize project delivery best practices across all retrospective and prospective research deliverables
  • Create a culture of operational excellence within the data science function, defining a resourcing plan and strategy for additional hires
  • Collaborate with the product and commercial teams to standardize research design based on the strengths and data capabilities of Verana data sets.
  • Partner with product, commercial and other teams to further develop strategies for analyzing linked, complementary data sources such as claims data, patient-derived data, and health systems EHR data.
  • Further develop and implement company policy, practices and operating procedures involving data compliance, in collaboration with other teams
  • Understanding of how to scale retrospective analytics projects, from initial specifications to delivery

Requirements

  • Masters or PhD in clinical or scientific discipline, with advanced training in clinical data science, biomedical informatics, and biostatistics
  • 10+ years’ experience applying data science and/or informatics initiatives across diverse projects and experiences and a strong track record of scientific contributions
  • Proven track record of using scientific methodology to analyze diverse data sources and derive insights that result in real-world evidence generation
  • Deep understanding of drug development lifecycle, life science org structure and related decision making
  • Possess the medical/scientific expertise to successfully communicate the customer needs to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience working in healthcare regulatory environments
  • Familiarity with HIPAA data privacy regulations
  • Experience engaging with FDA or other regulators a plus
  • Extensive experience in leadership; career development, training, and resource allocation

Data Quality Scientist (San Francisco)

Verana Health is seeking a Data Quality Scientist with the skills to manipulate and analyze healthcare data from a variety of data sources. The scientist will investigate Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system databases, understand EMR data models, and identify/catalog data quality issues present in EMR databases.

Responsibilities

  • Forensically explore relational databases to investigate, identify, and troubleshoot discrepancies in data. Profile various healthcare databases from ingestion to analytical database across 3 main clinical domains.
  • Preemptively identify and troubleshoot technical/clinical/data issues by creating rules for checks and triggers based on expected clinical workflows to highlight potential data quality issues and quantitatively assess data quality
  • Validate, assess, and document the performance of algorithms
  • Work closely with technology, product, and RWE teams to understand processes and policies driving the team goals.
  • Document and improve data quality of all databases
  • Contribute to building of an automated data quality assessment tool
  • Ad hoc projects

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years' data engineering or analytics experience working directly with claims or EHR data
  • Solid understanding of clinical & EMR workflows, including knowledge of expected high-level data elements and categories, and understanding of standard medical terminologies and coding systems (e.g., ICD, CPT)
  • Proficiency in SQL and python pandas dataframes
  • Demonstrated expertise in transforming disparate data to more easily analyzable tables
  • Critical thinking skills & desire to dive into the data to trace potential issues to their source
  • Ability to learn quickly and independently
  • Attention to detail

Bonus

  • Experience in data models of major EMRs such as Epic, Cerner, Allscripts, Athena, Nextgen, Nextech, eClinicalWorks, Intelichart Pro (MDIntellesys), Compulink, iMedicWare, Integrity, MedFlow, etc.
  • Clinical knowledge and understanding of specific coding rules for ophthalmology, neurology, and/or urology
  • Understanding of MIPS reporting requirements
  • PySpark and python programming skills
  • SNOMED CT, LOINC, RxNORM)
  • Skills to quickly and effectively create powerpoint/google slides
  • Clinical knowledge in a healthcare domain. It would be even more ideal if they understand key conditions and treatments in ophthalmology, neurology, and/or urology.
  • Understanding of RWE, market trends, clinical trial, and/or provider/practice profiling would be great
  • Experience with AWS EMR
